Wine buyers and drinking

Who do we call wine buyers? Well all of those that are buying wine, starting for people that are buying wine for personal reasons in smaller or larger quantities (for a weeding or special event); those that are buying wine for their store, those that are buying wine from different places for export or to import and to sell them after that.

Because the industry of wine is so spread these days, the ones working in it are in growing numbers. One of the jobs in this industry is, of course, that of a wine buyer. Wine buyer is a position that some might think to be one of the best in the world, and it actually can be the best.

But what does that imply? Does it mean that the person with this job needs to be a connoisseur or he needs to be a good negotiator? Well, yes you do need to know as many possible things about wines, producers’ brands, etc. The job means that you will have to find new resources or wines. You will have to choose between them, because you have to think not only about your opinion about the wine but also about what would the clients’ think of the wine. You will have to participate in wine tasting and be an open person. The part with wine testing is probably the best part of the job.

The best way to get prepared for this job is to work in a wine store where you will learn a lot of important things and facts about wine. If you are lucky you might probably find a job in a decent wine store that has some good quality selection of wines. You would want to learn more about those.

Working in a fine restaurant is also a good way to start. Here you will get the chance to serve different types of wines and you will have to explain the customers about the wines that the restaurant is serving. Also, you have so much information on the internet that could help you in your study or with your questions.

Anyway, this job is not only about buying wine. In most cases it means traveling to discover new type of wines. So, this job is probably more suitable for a person that can travel and that doesn’t have a family, because that can be hard. Also knowing more than one language will always be an advantage and in this industry you can probably guess that France, Italian is the two languages that will help the most.

This type of job can be the dream job for a wine lover. But try to imagine yourself doing this every day and think if you will still love doing it in a couple of years. You would probably get bored and would probably lose the passion you have for wine. Also this job is dangerous because you can become an alcoholic if you are not careful. So, balance the pro and the cons for this job and see if it is the perfect one for you.
